Carrie and Shawn met over 20 years ago and immediately found a connection in their profound love of animals. That shared passion led to their dream to one day open a sanctuary for farm animals in need.
In 2020, they moved from the only place they had ever called home [Illinois] to build a life in Tennessee and fulfill their dream. Carrie and Shawn feel blessed that they, along with all the animals on MBHF, have now found their forever home.
Mr. Buddy was a Chihuahua mix who found himself in a shelter along with his Maltipoo sister, Gigi, at a difficult age to attract adopters. We knew when we met them that we were not leaving the shelter without them. Despite his tiny stature, Mr. Buddy always protected his sister as well as the rest of our family. He was a gentle soul that brought joy to us all. His spirit lives on in our farm.
WHAT KIND OF ANIMALS DO YOU TAKE INTO THE SANCTUARY?
We take in many different types of livestock, such as goats, sheep, and pigs. We will also occasionally adopt elderly dogs and bunnies.
HOW DOES A SANCTUARY DIFFER FROM OTHER ANIMAL RESCUES?
The sanctuary is a forever home for the animals on the farm, we do not have an adoption program. Our furry family will live the rest of their lives here in a safe, comfortable and loving environment. No animals will ever be sold or used for commercial purposes.
HOW DO ANIMALS MAKE THEIR WAY TO YOUR SANCTUARY?
We work with other local rescue organizations to help alleviate overcrowding at their facilities so they may open their doors to new rescues.
WHAT ANIMAL WOULD YOU LIKE TO ADD TO THE FARM?
We would like to add cows and perhaps donkeys, but we need to add some stalls and expand our pastures!
HOW ARE YOU FUNDED?
The majority of our funding is through private donations. We look forward to hosting fundraisers in the future.
DO YOU ACCEPT DONATED SUPPLIES?
Yes! We are always in need of supplies for the animals and will happily schedule a time for gently used or new equipment, unopened bags of feed, minerals or supplements to be delivered to the farm.
DO YOU ACCEPT VOLUNTEERS?
We gladly welcome hardworking volunteers and rely on people who love animals to help us with daily care, grooming and fun enrichment games.
WHAT TYPE OF ANIMALS DO YOU PERSONALLY HAVE?
We have two dogs who were adopted from Old Friends Senior Dog Sanctuary in Lebanon TN, and a precious little barn cat that adopted us when she fell in love with our older female pig, Charlotte!
